San Tan Valley August Wine Tasting Event

San Tan Valley Wine Tasting Event

Sampling delicious wines while eating artisan cheeses, this is the life. In August 2018, we attended a wine tasting in San Tan Valley, Arizona. We were presented with 5 different wines to taste.

The room was set up for 40 attendees. There were long tables and chairs facing the front of the room to see the presenter. Each table had a seat for 6 people. At each table setting, there was a napkin, water glass, and two wine glasses. At the head of each table, there was a spit bucket/dump bucket for the extra or unwanted wine. When I learned this, I thought to myself, “Why would anyone have extra wine or unwanted wine?” I was about to learn … Last but not least there was a document with the wine details and a pencil for taking notes.

The following were the sampled wines:
Paler & Co. Brut Reserve – Champagne (Reims, France)
Ruffino Prosecco (Italy)
Wild Horse Pinot Noir (Central Coast)
R. Mondavi “Private Selection” Bourbon Barrel – Cabernet Sauvignon (Monterey)
AUROS Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa)

I am grateful there were so many different types of wine because we learned that I liked the fruity lighter wines and Hunter liked the dark dryer wines.

When the presenter would pour a glass for each attendee, he would share the history of the maker and the winemaking process. This was fascinating to learn that there are so many ways of making wine.

It was a great learning experience for me. I did use the spit bucket for one of the wines, as the class was moving through the wines so fast that I was unable to keep up. In order to not swallow the wine in one chug. It was better to stay focus and pay attention.

Have you attended a wine tasting? What is your favorite type of wine?

  1. Looks like fun. I love wine tasting and if we see a winery we will often stop to check it out. Years ago my husband and I took a course at the Culinary Institute of America – it was so fun and we learned so much.
