Fremont Lake is no ordinary mountain lake. Stretching eleven miles long and half a mile wide, it plunges to an impressive 600 feet deep, making it the second largest natural lake in Wyoming. We stayed at campsite #26, which came equipped with a picnic table, bear-proof food storage, and a fire ring. Rates were refreshingly affordable. Just $15 for a single unit and $30 for a double unit (as of June 2025). There’s a 14-day stay limit, and amenities include vaulted toilets, water refill stations, and two friendly campground hosts.
The self-service pay station makes it simple to set up camp, and some sites are shaded enough to enjoy summer afternoons. Just remember: the water is chilly. You can stand in it comfortably, but unless you’re outfitted with a wetsuit, you may find swimming a bit brisk.
The SUP Board Explosion: A Camping Story We’ll Never Forget
It started with a high-pitched squeal.
Then…BOOM!
At first, we thought a propane tank had exploded. We dashed out of our camper van, where the back and side doors were open, only to see… nothing. Our paddleboard, which had been sitting on the picnic table after a peaceful morning session on the lake, was gone.
We looked around and found the heartbreaking remains: our SUP board had burst, beyond repair.
It was a sad moment for us. That paddleboard had seen adventures from calm coves to alpine reflections. Since then, we’ve been entering contests in hopes of winning a replacement. (If you hear of a SUP board giveaway, please send it our way!)
