In May 2018, we visited Kinsol Trestle located on Vancouver Island, BC. We researched things to do in Vancouver and Kinsol Trestle hike was a result. We were glad it did. It was a beautiful day on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Hunter and I walked on the park’s flat path ~1.2km from the free public parking lot to arrive at the magnificent Kinsol Trestle. We were amazed by the structure and its magnitude. I liked the many paths down from the trestle to the river.
There are many paths at the bottom near the river that you can explore too. One of the paths we took was the Jack Fleetwood Trail. Trail length was listed as 1000m. We enjoyed it because it followed the river. As we meandered through the woods on the path, we could hear the river flowing. If you are looking for a nice walk or a path through the trees, we suggest visiting Kinsol Trestle.
Kinsol Trestle was completed in 1920 and took passengers from 1922-1925. Then there are floods that damage the structure. Next, there was vandalism and no maintenance. Therefore it becomes a park to be restored. The remodeling was completed and opened for the park in 2011-2012.

what would the ideal pair of shoes be to use?
If you are walking from the parking lot to the Trestle, a good pair of walking shoes would be good. If you are doing to go down the paths from the Trestle to the river, it can be slippery and a shoe with grip would be great. If you are going to hike the Jack Fleetwood Trail, then a good pair of hiking boots would be best as the trail is uneven and slippery when wet from the rains.
what was the most memorable thing- aka what should the first thing i should do when i get there?
Once you arrive at the Trestle, there are step-outs that allow you to be on the side of the Trestle. You will love the view of the Trestle from the side and the views down to the river below. These are great spots for having your photo taken.
Does it have restrooms?
Yes, at the Kinsol Trestle there is a restroom.
