Steve Holmquist is a singer-songwriter who enjoys sharing stories about the desert and areas around Lost Dutchman State Park. He shares his stories through song. We recently visited Lost Dutchman State Park and enjoyed a sunset intimate concert. Join us as we recap our experience and at the end see when you can listen to Steve Holmquist next at Lost Dutchman State Park.
What to Bring to Sunset Concert
A beautiful afternoon in Arizona with temperatures in the 70’s. A sunny sky with wispy clouds. We brought our camping chairs, water, and a coat for when the sun would go down. Since we brought chairs we sat near the fire pit and in front of Singer Steve. There is a ramada near that many people were sitting at.
Many people were coming off the mountain from a hike that stopped to listen. I trust hearing Steve was a wonderful way to complete a hike.
Stories and Songs
As Mr. Holmquist would share with us the story behind a song he would be playing his acoustic guitar. It was a lovely accompany melody to the storytelling. Then he would sing wonderful tunes that he created about life and the desert. He brought out emotions in me as I reflected on past experiences. Happy emotions that brought a smile to my face and happy-sad emotions in remembrance of people that have passed away.
He was humorous and caused the audience to laugh. I enjoyed how he was able to capture moments in the songs that caused me to dream. It also helped that we were surrounded by the gorgeous desert with flowering plants. It had rained earlier in the week and therefore the air was crisp and clean. The Superstition Mountain glowed with the evening sun. It was a very peaceful hour.

Next time you are camping or going on the Treasure Loop Tail hike at Lost Dutchman State Park take a look at the calendar and see if there is live music that day. There are always many educational events taking places such as Plant Identification or Bird Identification.
When was the last time you sat and listen to live music?
I love intimate concerts like this. It’s so special when you can learn the stories behind the songs.
Yes, I thought that was wonderful that he shared the stories.
What a delightful way to spend an evening! The scenery is gorgeous, and the entertainment sounds lovely. I would love to see something like this when I go to Arizona.
When you visit AZ next, yes look up the events at Lost Dutchman State Park.
I love that there are special events all the time at this park! That is really awesome!
I too am very glad the parks put on these types of events.
I love this. Seeing a concert surrounded by all the beauty of this park must have been an amazing experience. I loved seeing concerts at Red Rocks Amphitheater in CO.
Attending a concert at Red Rocks would be great.
That looks neat. I don’t do many concerts, so this was something new to me.
We like trying new things too.
Such a perfect way to spend an afternoon…love live music outside!
